Who are the Friends?
The Friends of the North Kansas City Public Library is a non-profit, membership organization devoted to supporting the North Kansas City Public Library and it's programs, exhibits and special projects. A membership to the Friends of the North Kansas City Public Library starts at as little at $5 a year. While membership is a small investment, the community reaps big rewards through the support of the Friends.
Since 1997, the Friends of the North Kansas City Public Library have promoted, enhanced and expanded the presence of the library for the benefit of the community. Friends' members are concerned citizens, business community members and students who strive to develop financial resources and programs. In addition, Friends members aim to create public awareness and to serve as an advocate for the North Kansas City Public Library.
Why Join the Friends?
If you've attended library programs featuring local authors or browsed the CD music collection, you've already experienced the difference that the Friends make to the North Kansas City Public Library. The Friends provide funds and materials that enhance library services and programs on an annual basis. This support allows the library to offer special benefits to the community, which are not within the library's annual operating budget. The result? A stronger library for the North Kansas City community which offers unique programs, enhanced collections and "special touches" throughout the building.
Examples of past Friend's gifts include a commissioned Jim Hamil watercolor of the 1939 library building, children's computer workstation furniture, kitchen cabinets, programs featuring local authors, foreign language materials, and the CD music collection.
What are the Benefits?
Friends of the North Kansas City Public Library are invited to enjoy the special exhibits and public programs made possible through the group's support. Friends also recieve library mailings detailing upcoming events and special programs and a newsletter.
While there is no time commitment required to join the Friends, unique volunteer opportunities are open to Friends as individual members are interested. Also, Friends membership contributions and gifts are fully tax deductible.
Certainly, the satisfaction of contributing to the cultural life of the North Kansas City community and the knowledge that you are supporting the efforts of the library to foster reading by all members of the community are perhaps the greatest benefits of all!
